Queensland AwardsNational AwardsOutstanding Achievement Awards

PRESS RELEASE: A list of Australia’s top journalists, photographers and admen was announced last night, courtesy of the OPSO Media and Advertising Awards.
They have been awarded for their excellence in highlighting the achievements and issues of today’s 50 plus generations.
The Awards were presented by the Minister for families and Minister for Seniors, Judy Spence, at a gala ceremony hosted by Franck Warrick at the Parliamentary Annex, Brisbane.
The winners came from all round Australia. They were quick to show their appreciation of the value of these Awards in light of the newly recognised significance of the older population.
OPSO Chairperson, Val French AM, said that this year’s entries reached a record of 1240, and the media were to be commended for the high standard of their work.
“Recent research has found that older people will live seven and a half years longer if they have a positive attitude to ageing.
“However, it found that the negative attitudes of the community are destructive to this positive attitude.
“For the last nine years we have awarded the media when, with excellence, they portray the active and contributing lives older people really live.”
She said the high standard of journalism and photography and the record number of nominations showed that this policy is working.
“However, with a few excellent exceptions, advertisers have been disappointing. While creative agencies undoubtedly recognise the value of the burgeoning market, businesses have been slow to accept that the 50 plus have to be respected as a highly significant market force,” she said.
